 Gaming Device Timeline

What my gaming devices say about me?

I think that when I was younger I would not have a gaming machine for long as I kept wanting to try new things to find out what I really wanted to play. I remember that most of the consoles I got were given to me by my older sibling or my older cousins. It was until 2009 when I started playing gaming quite a lot I think I found what I wanted to play and that was Xbox and I played that for around 4 years then I took a break from gaming properly for a year but decided the next year to get the Xbox One as I realised that I needed to play Video Games as it was just part of my life and a big part as it was a thing I enjoyed and since 2014 I have played the Xbox One X but I am certain about not moving back to Sony or Nintendo consoles anymore as I have become a fan of Xbox and I remember not having my PlayStation’s for very long when I had them. I think I was a gamer that enjoyed to try out new consoles when they came out but now I think I just stick with one console and one phone for a while until I decide to get the next one. As a gamer now I only stick to one console make and that is Microsoft Xbox and that shows I am a gamer loyal to one brand now.

Bartle Test

I identify least with the explorer because I do not really like to go round finding new things If I already either know the best way to do win the game or have the best equipment to do it. I also do not identify with achiever that much because I don't really go for achievements because I just try to be better than other players on games like Fifa, racing games and shooting games. I identify with Socialiser a bit because I usually play with friends on games like racing games and shooting games but not as much on Fifa. However i feel that the bartle test is correct in saying that I identify with Killer and that is because I always want to be better than others and this shows because when I play Fifa and I score a goal I like to do celebrations that annoy my opponents to show them that I am better than them. I also like to play with other good players at games so I do not lose because I have people on my team who are not good. Also when I beat someone I like to taunt to show them that I am better than them and they are not good. Also when I lose a game I tend to rage at the game and I believe that the group of people I play with are mostly killers as we all try to be the best at the game we play and we taunt our opponents when we win.

What makes a game, a game?

Tag is a physical game which is mainly for younger children to run around and have fun with each other. Tag is usually played with a group of people.

Dominos is a game that lets people relax and it is a game that does not require any physical activity like running and that is why lots of older people play it.

Monopoly is game that is very competitive and usually ends in arguments but it still ends up being fun to play and it does not include any physical activity to actually play the game and it is usually a game that is played in families.

Handheld devices let people relieve stress anywhere they want because they can play it outside or inside and it is usually just one person playing but they might play against others.

Playing a console allows certain gamers to play with friends online against other people. There is no physical activities involved and it allows people to enjoy themselves. It can also be quite competitive

Spin the bottle is a game for a big group of friends and it allows the group to have fun with each other. It is mainly a game that is played at parties by young adults or teenagers.

Charades is game that is mainly played by families at a big event or a certain day during the week. It usually makes people laugh and enjoy themselves.

Laser tag is a game that is played by a large group of friends and it allows them to run around shooting other people, it involves teamwork and all of the group play it to enjoy themselves. it can also be quite competitive.

Things like crosswords and Sudoku which are in newspapers are mainly played by older people because it is a relaxing game and it requires no physical activity.

This is a game that requires a lot of physical activity and most of the time the competitors enjoy themselves and it is a very competitive game as no one wants to lose and they will do anything not to.

This game is a chance game because you do not know if you are going to get the number you want and that is what makes the game exciting. It also looks like it allows people to socialise with others.

Arcade games is based on luck because you don't know if you are going to win or lose and winning excites the player a lot. These certain arcade games are played by adults as it requires gambling.

Jesper Juul's definition explains that the people playing the game are the ones that decide the outcome as they choose how much effort they put in to get the outcome they want to get so for example in Football each player wants to win so they will try their best to score or stop the other team scoring so they can achieve the outcome they want and that is their team winning the game.

Regulatory bodies

A regulatory body is a company that decides who should play each game depending what it includes and whether it is suitable enough for younger people. For example shooting games are a 16 or 18 because they don't want younger kids playing shooting games as at a young things you see can influence what you do. The main regulatory body is the gaming industry is PEGI and that stands for Pan European Game Information and they make the decisions of age recommendations for each and every game that ever gets release whether it is on Xbox, the Wii or any other gaming technology.

Multi-Platforms

There are a lot of games that appear on one console but not the other for example Uncharted 1,2 and 3 all feature on the PS3 but Uncharted 4 is only on the PS4. Another game that is similar to this is FIFA and that is the case because EA Sports no longer decide to make FIFA for old gen consoles like the Xbox 360 or the PS3 but they still make it for the Xbox One and PS4.
